Hello! New to the forum - hoping to learn and also bring some digital insights

Yours doesn’t work.

Are you sure you typed it in correctly? This is the link:

his first is an example not his actual username

Yea, I didn’t type it in, I just clicked on the link in your message. The next message it was correct.

my existing link takes customers to my reviews but does not open a review form for them as it used to.

As a moderator on this forum, and the official digital marketing, webservices and SEO provider to both the WCRA and PWRA, I must warn you that peddling of online services by unauthorized parties was banned in this forum.

Please refrain from doing so.

Hi @SqueegeeNinjaNJ,

I’m a bit confused by what you mean. Can you re-iterate what you mean by “peddling online services” in other words? Thanks!

really? @Njones regularly makes informative comments re web stuff is that against the rules? serious question

Hey Cactus,

NJones is a longstanding member of this community, and has great insights. He is and has been an authorized party.

The rule was made to stop people from being ripped off (search for The Legend Of Doug or Paul MacQuillan), and to keep every Tom, Dick and Harry from coming in here and PEDDLING their services (then ultimately ripping people off).

ok it’s the authorized aspect, i get it thanks for clarifying.

“My hope is to help share some of my marketing knowledge on this forum with other small-run window cleaning operations. Here to help those who might not have the time nor desire to learn on their own the growing world of digital marketing. Please feel free to ask me any questions!”

It starts with you coming here with hopes of picking up a few digital marketing customers.

Then someone like myself mentions the rules, and quotes where you are “getting your foot in the door” to peddle services (see, I just did that above).

The you say “Nah, that’s not what I’m doing”

Then it happens anyway.

This is not our first rodeo.

This is not up for debate.

??? What was he selling? Did I miss something?

Edit: I just read your explanation- makes some sense. Still came off a bit harsh, imo

I know it may seem harsh, but it starts the same way literally every time.

New member + “Help” with digital marketing = salesman.

Guess I’m a little naive in that respect. I remember LoD and Paul M. But it was ages ago, and I haven’t been aware of what else has probably happened since then in the shadows.

Luckily, not much because we have been vigilant about it.

Usually its not a window cleaner, so there’s no discussion, only a ban.

This has been a whirlwind of an introduction thread. :disappointed: I hope everyone has a chance to read this post, because I think it is important, and I think @SqueegeeNinjaNJ is doing a good thing by keeping away scammers from the forums by silencing their attempts to solicit business. I don’t take any offense to his suggesting that I am trying to peddle for services.

My hope is to one day help small business owners effectively use digital marketing to grow their businesses. To be able to do that I have to first learn where there might be a need for that help. That brings me to why I am here. I don’t have an online services company, nor do I make any money for helping people with digital marketing. Is it something that I could see myself doing eventually? For sure! Part of the reason I’m here is to see if I actually have valuable stuff for people to hear about. What that means to me is getting involved with the forums and doing my best to add some good content. If people take it well, and I start to feel a need for it - then hey, maybe I’d have a decent shot at starting a digital marketing business someday. @SqueegeeNinjaNJ I don’t see the need to ban me for having that be a potential business path. You won’t be seeing “peddling” from me anytime soon, but maybe down the road it is something I would be able to do as an authorized third party.

I am a 20-year old who takes Internet Marketing at school in Kingston, Ontario, with two years of window cleaning experience - not an “SEO” specialist trying to scam a forum (like The Legend of Dough or Paul MacQuillan). I invite anyone to check out my LinkedIn page, or my company website/Facebook page if you need verification on that.

Hopefully that clears the air a bit.

I guess this is a good example of why a humble intro, several months of establishing rapport, and then cautiously contributing is the better strategy. Unfortunately, I learned those lessons in a real-life setting, which is much harder than on an internet forum.

Facebook has made it so that when a “Facebook friend” reviews a Business Page, all of the reviewers friends will receive a notification that this person left a review
[/quote] We aren’t very good about keeping up with our Facebook page (gotta do better) however just recently a customer left a review on our page and then shortly after we got notification of 15 new views of our page. So this explains it. Thanks!

The rule of thumb these days is that you want to post at least once a week. If people land on your page and see that the last post is not as recent as a week, they will think the page is less legitimate and associate that with the legitimacy of your business. I slack off in the off-season up here in Canada though - but we will start ramping up our posts again before the end of winter!

why don’t you have a google page? @MattGraves
