Headphones during route work?

For you guys who run regular storefront routes- do you wear headphones/earbuds while you work?

Personally I’m always paranoid of getting run over from behind if I drown out my surroundings.
Another potential con is missing a marketing opportunity cause I like to chat with passersby and hand out my cards.

A major plus to some jams would be not having to hear the “missed a spot” guy whenever he comes a-calling.
And I might work just a hair harder if I had a good soundtrack to back me up.

How about you?

I work with one earbud in and the other ear open

One ear bud in while working, so I don’t miss opportunities.

If I’m walking between stops or crossing traffic ear buds get removed.

Yeah, get a bluetooth device and people figure you’re just a busy guy who has to have handsfree.

I always have headphones in, even if not on. This allows me to ignore any annoying people or stupid questions.

what music do you like?

Could be considered rude by some.

Music does activate the right side of the brain, lending to more creativity and an overall sense of calm, which is a welcome change from the left side, linear domination.

Especially useful when doing a lot of French panes.

Yeah I jam all day with one earbud in, I’ve actually carried conversations with people with my music still on and flipping my squeegee. Lol

I was about to write how I am surprised , then I realized no, i’m not really surprised, here OH&S laws state you cannot have both ears covered with head phones or earbuds, so like most 1 ear with music, 1 without.

For me it’s a distraction. I’ve got ear buds in my ears all the time but not if I’m working. Haha

Typical over regulation. If a person can’t figure out how and when to wear headphones at work, he should probably find himself a nice telemarketing job.

It all depends on the job I am doing. I used to have one of those Bluetooth wireless headsets, and would jam out to some music 8 hours a day-- at a very quiet volume. Of course, whenever I went inside to do a door, I took them off and said “Hello”. Other than that, nobody has ever complained in 12 years of me listening to music. I don’t think they would like the metal, but it sure as hell gets me fired up to knock out some store fronts. I like to put in the Rocky themesong

If I am by myself doing a huge house, headphones stay in until I go inside and engage the customer.
