Gutter Cleaning Job

Ok …I have not run into this yet, I have a gutter cleaning and house washing job booked on this place for next week. Problem is,I’m not sure how to attack this part of the highest gutters. The only thing I can think of is a gutter clearing tool on a super long pole to get the area behind this octagon looking thing.Have any of you had a situation like this? I’m not comfortable putting a ladder on top of that crazy ass roof over the octagon looking thingy…I think that would be suicide!

Any tips would be appreciated!

For jobs like that, and most so I don’t have to move my ladder, I have a brush that I cut down to width to fit in the gutter on my long pole and drag the debris to me.

What kind of pitch is the roof?

Get someone to foot the ladder from the deck and climb up and look… I’m going to wager that that strip of gutter doesn’t have any debri in it.

@Garry’s tool looks interesting. I’ll have to look into that. It looks like it might make a good ledge duster as well.

Two ladder sets, one on each side of the center set of windows. one would be close enough to the downspout for inspection and the other would be centered over the right set of windows. I’d extension ladder up and using a ‘stand-off’ to clear the gutters, as the stand-off would be resting on the shingles of the roof, just above the gutters. Each section of gutter looks to be no more than 6’, so a 10-12’ pole length with a gutter spoon should be enough.
I really like the design of this Gutter Spoon

You can easily work the debris under and around the gutter nails. And, if they have gutter guards, gutter helmets, etc… you only have to loosen the gutter protectors enough to work the gutter spoon and pole underneath them and get the debris out.
I’d get a gutter spoon and make one of @Garry’s tools.

In this day and age, it might pay you to get a drone and fly it up there to see if it needs cleaned.
Let’s see the wife or the IRS complain about that…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Lol id just walk it

That’s a pretty nice DIY @Garry!..I night have to make me one!.. You can’t tell in the pic @IronLionZion, but it’s a pretty sharp pitch…not sure I want to attempt that. @Dee, I am ordering one of those right now! I don’t have two ladders, so I think the spoon on a long pole will work. Oh,and the drone is a great idea!..My Fiance would let me have anything she could play with too… Haha!..and her reply is always…whatever you need to do to be a success,I support you…so I’m thinking a new gun along with the drone will help me with this job too! LOL.

@SwissMike … I genuinely don’t have toe stones to walk that roof…and I’m not afraid to admit it LOL

By no means do you HAVE to walk it. If it’s too steep, it’s too steep. Ladder up and spoon pole it. Many of us have had to do it that way. Some of us figured out ways to not do it at all.

I think spooning is definitely the way to go…I have been seriously considering playing around with building a DIY Gutter Vac… I figure, if it didn’t work,At least I have a new Shop Vac! LOL

I’m more excited about the House Washing…and Window cleaning opportunities…there are a TON of homes in that development and he said he would pass my cards around.

Just remember, a job is not a job until it is done. People use that angle to get you to “give them a deal”.

Ha Ha, it’s not two ladders…It’s setting your one extension ladder, with stand-off, at two separate positions so you can access the different gutter angles. Sorry, using an old construction term ‘Ladder Set’ = Ladder Set Up or Ladder Placement. My mistake.

My wife is the same as yours. But, I think the drone would be a hard sale. Ha Ha Ha

Generally, I don’t walk pitched roofs any more, except my own. Seen too many good people put out of work because of it. Not afraid of heights at all…101st Airborne Air Assault and I’d take you rappelling tomorrow, no problem.
Watching people walking the edge to clean a gutter…and, I think what a perfect picture for a “Hold My Beer” meme.
