Got my first Restaurant.....BUT!

Ughhh, landed my first restaurant…a popular National chain…with the probability of securing the 2nd and location…but…I believe I underbid.

Talked to the Regional Manager (who, by luck was there) and she said the guy that WAS coming stopped showing up…and it was too expensive anyway .they need a reliable window cleaner. Like an idiot, I considered the going rate around here of 4 bucks a window,so my mind was racing…and without thinking I spewed out $2.50 a window…and I rounded it down a little…now that’s gonna be about 55 bucks once a month for exterior and then once a month exterior /interior for $95.00…I discounted a little for that as well…like a dummy…because…after I quoted the price, she said the last guy charged them $12.00 per window…(exterior only!)…yes…12 bucks a window…I’m not sure I have ever heard of that high a price n this area…

Moral of the story and lesson learned…ask what they were charged by the last guy FIRST!..( I see it o here all the time LOL) I could have said 6 bucks a window and probably still have landed it…plus,I will probably get the other location in the neighboring community…where I can surely pick up more accounts…I will try to up-sale on my first visit as well…cobweb removal and blind dusting…maybe I can make it up a little

I made a HUGE mistake, but I learned a valuable sales lesson and I believe it will work out for me in the end as they will be a great reference for me…

Lesson is: Better to bid too high than too low.

12 bucks a window? On a storefront? Sheesh. 2.50 is a good price around here.

Here to.

Heck 12 is good here for residential work per window…lol

@whitehorse67

I just may have to check out Horseheads, NY. It sounds like some prime store front work!

@wcs …nooo, don’t waste your time here…nothing to see here in Horseheads, NY  haha!..but seriously, I guess maybe I would have felt better about the $2.50 a window quote had she not told me what she was being charged! LOL. This area seems to have been neglected…The Fish guys used to be in business here, but they are gone. There’s a few others I see around, but I don’t think they do much…mainly promote Pressure Washing. If I hustle, I just may be able to wrap up the Restaurant, Bank and Convenient store market!..I have about 5 leads that are “probable” from today…I feel optimistic!

@JaredAI … I was SHOCKED when she told me the price…I have a feeling that’s why their guy stopped showing up…probably priced himself out of business…

It’s good for ya. Builds character!

Maybe he is getting even MORE money somewhere else! So that piddly $12/side wasn’t worth his time anymore.

Don’t give out your price per window to potential clients.

On Residential quotes my price for a double hung starts at one price then goes Up when spring time hits and it’s gets busier (new customers, prices don’t fluctuate for existing clients aside from the $2-5 increases Ive added each season)

As for storefront quotes, I haven’t had any problems with a service minimum,it’s now at $15. I also like to base the price of charging about $1-2/minute that job will take. If it looks like a pain in the neck to get done but only takes 20 minutes to hit I maybe charhe $35 just because I don’t really want it but if it’s along my service route I’ll add it.

Great lesson…thank you! I will remember that going forward for sure…changing my approach starting tomorrow for sure!

Your kind of missing it in my opinion. You got work. That’s a plus. 2.50 a side for a restaurant is unheard of here. That is edging into residential pricing in Arizona. Take it and run. Can you make a living at that price?

Get the work, get the exposure then get more clients. Everybody has underbid jobs so no need to feel Ike the Lone Ranger.

$12 per window? It wasn’t a dude… it was the Swedish bikini team in white T-shirts! They stopped showing up because their tour is only in town for one day!

I’m going to be staying a couple nights in Horseheads soon. It’s a ‘suburb’ of Elmira, yes?

I get your point for sure…I was at first…the thing that I was kicking myself about is how i went about closing the sale…I should have gathered more info…but it’s ok…I landed 3 more accounts today…and they are great bids! LOL

Yes, they are right next to each other…I actually live in Horseheads. Elmira is a dump…try not to spend too much time there LOL

maybe she was mistaken when she said $12 per.
