Getting more commercial work

How do you get into bigger businesses that might not have the owner or manager there all the time?

Whatever you do, don’t show up in a wife beater claiming to beat everyone’s price.

Are you talking big commercial like hotels, office buildings, hospitals, etc.? Or are you talking storefront type stuff like retail stores, restaurants, hair salons, etc.?

Put on decent clothes and your friendliest smile and walk on in.

This actually happened to one of my newish commercial customers. Some dude showed up to their business outta nowhere in a white wife beater claiming he’ll beat anyones price.

They said nope sorry. We have someone. The guy told me he doesn’t care how much it costs. He wants the best. My kinda guy…

Probably more smaller franchises but place that have a decent amount of glass such as auto zones, fast food, etc.
Is as easy as just walking in and asking for the store owner or is there a different approach. I always dress up ready to clean if they ask.

So that’s what I am doing wrong…

There’s so many variables at work here. Every corporation has different policies regarding things like glass cleaning and how they deal with potential vendors. Some have so many hoops to jump through its not worth it, others don’t hire out to clean windows, and there’s others that like a clean apperance but already have someone. The posibilities are endless. As such, so are the rewards.

I can say from experience that bidding commercial jobs and aquiring commercial accounts take a certain amount of finess when dealing with “corporate” or managers, or GM’s. In the marketing world they are revered to as “The Gatekeepers.” This is your point of contact and your way into a company. Treat them well. Figure out who the gatekeeper is and aproach them with a fine tuned pitch and the job is almost in your hands.

Commercial window cleaning is often times quite competitive too so keep that in mind. If you need any pointers on how to deal with these types of people don’t be afraid to PM me with questions you might have.

Keep yourself on an even playing field with everyone you deal with all the time. Stay on their level so to speak. Learn how to deal with top corporate executives all the way down to the barista that can introduce you to the manager of a coffee shop you’re interested in.

It’s a whole can of worms to open. And the rabbit hole is deep.

Ever hear the old saying location, location, location? Change that with timing, timing, timing. Professionalism is everything…
