Getting a film with Glass Gleam

Hey guys, I’ve been having an issue with a few of my store front jobs. They have what seems to be tinted glass but it is in between. My problem is that when I go to wash these windows on a sunny day, I seem to be leaving a film behind on the outside of the glass. I’ve tried less soap, and more soap and it still has the same effect. I currently use glass gleam, and use it as the manufacturer recommends. Any ideas or suggestions. ?

Is your rubber old?

I usually change my rubber pretty regularly, I’ll try and change it out the next time I go.

Oils / grease on the glass?..add more soap.

I think I know what your talking about but don’t have a solution for you. Years ago I used to get the same effect when I used too much GG but recently have had the same effect on a couple jobs and it was mixed as usual. I haven’t found the problem yet. Its not the rubber in my case I’m not sure what is causing it. I’ve used GG for 20 years and haven’t had an issue like this before unless to much soap.

When you apply the GG it can often gather or separate from the glass leaving assorted wet and dry spots in the glass. When you squeegee it leaves a residues that matches where the water was pooled in the glass. Same effect when it dries in the glass but it isn’t in there long enough to dry. Not sure what is causing it.

What kind of soap? Ecover?

That is exactly what is going on. And the only thing that seems to work after I clean the glass is to go over it with a clean huck/surgical towel, but that is time consuming and I end up using a bunch of rags. Not to mention totally defeats the purpose of having a squeegee.

Glass Gleam

By itself? Usually people use it with soap.

Bu itself, never had an issue until recently with the”tinted” glass but it’s worth a try. Just give it a few shots on dawn? Or do you recommend something else?

I’ve used it for 20 years with and without soap added. Adding other soap defeats the purpose of using GG. It shouldn’t have issues like this. Give Titan Labs a call. Their usually very open and friendly and open to answering questions. I’ve talked with then before both over the phone and in person. They are based here in DFW. I’m not sire what the issue is. It’s nothing we are doing as I know I am using it correctly. It may have something to do with the tint as I recall I think the windows I had issues with were tinted as well but I’m don’t recall for certain.

Soap defeats the purose GG was designed.

I use it solo but our crew differs, some do ad other soap but that is purely out of tradition. They are under the opinion and were trained on dish soap alone. Believing they need the appearance of suds and slip, not saying they are wrong or right, just preference.

Once trained one way its tough to break into other methods by many.

Humm, I’ve had a couple of jobs that were just problem jobs like that. I just expect to use a few more towels. I had one house that was a nightmare to clean because of that film like residue. I’ve done I don’t know how many houses, but that one single house was just a pain. I don’t know what it was about those windows but they were just super hard to clean. It’s not about technique or soap or anything, it’s just about the glass.

Yeah, I agree with that. I was trained with soap and dialed in how much I need for each type of job. A ccu gets a ton of soap, a house very little. The gg4 is only ever added for residential and hot days where the water flashes off.

GG by itself sucks for slip. Hated it solo but a dash of soap and it works fine.

Thanks for the help, I just wanted to see if I was missing something.
