Garage door windows

Any ideas on this? I took out the plastic decorative inserts in the garage door of a customer and can’t get them back in.
These are not your typical design where you just bend the insert a bit and it slides into a slot in the plastic that is around the pane.
They are about 20+ years old and the glass and insert are held into the door with a rubber gasket that has a spline on the back.
I talked to a local distributor of the door brand about pulling the spline, taking out the glass, and putting it all back together with the insert. He said “oh no… don’t do that, you’ll never get the glass back in”. So I’m looking for some kind of lubricant to get the insert to slide under these very tight rubber gaskets.

Pictures would help. I have installed a Lot of glass. Txt me some pics 217-342-7162

Honestly the local distributor most times hasn’t a clue you need a glazier

I’ve taken those out of several garage doors. You really have to bend and push them back in but they will go. They definitely come out a lot easier than they go back in.

I just use my WFP. It’s not perfect but you’re going to end up breaking those things one day. Just warn the customer not to open the garage door until it’s dry.

Bump.

We removed 8 windows today caked with mud (use to be bees nests). Took us about 90 minutes between taking out all the screws, removing the glass, washing panes with soapy warm water, and putting them back into place. Spent about 2 hours total because one pane fell out and broke. Got a quick replacement made for $11. The customer reimbursed us for that, too. I didn’t ask for it but they added it to the check.

We’d never removed the glass along with the case/insert it’s held in. I think it’s a great thing to upsell, even possibly replacing all of the glass if you know a local glazier who can cut it for you. Learned a lot from a mistake today that turned into $150
