French pain Pella windows?

So I have a pest customer that just built a house with I’d say 150 windows, all pella, all French panes, there’s no place for screens, and they’re all at least 4 feet tall.

Now, if I clean a top panel, will I have to worry about water traveling behind the plastic piece, for example, if I clean the top panel and then the panel below the top will water travel down that 2nd panel afterwards?

Also, what’s the problem with pella windows, why does everyone seem to hate them?

Do you have any pics? I’m trying to remember the last time I saw pella’s with divided lites. I think they were from the 80’s or 90’s.

Pella’s are my favorite type of storm windows to clean, when they work properly. I’ve had so many with the seals fused to the frames, and latches broken on Designer series swing-outs. But when they work as intended, I can fly through them in comparison to any other storm window type. Just need to leave them out/open to dry for a couple hours, or they fog up. (Or you could try using Sprayway for the interior surfaces, but that gets a little smelly for me after a while)

The grills might just pop off depending on the model.

I like pellas glass. It’s the best glass I’ve seen down here. When it comes time to build my house, I’ll probably put pellas in.

However, they can be a pain to clean. The older designer series was a stupid pain to clean, the new designer series is just a minor pain.

Sadly I didn’t, but they’re not the normal window where it raises up, they swing out, i don’t think the dividers come off

Can’t tell without actually seeing them. If the grids are tight and sealed against the glass then they should clean like any other (real) French paned window. If they are removable grids, then you may have to remove them to clean them, or if that risks breaking them then Sprayway and towel clean each of them.

Oh yeah, forgot about that style.

@Aldreth, some of the designer series (storm panel swings out on a hinge with a retracting cord latch) came with a grid that sits off the glass, and clips to the frame with little metal clips. Those can be removed if you’re careful and systematic. Good idea to wear gloves when reinstalling them, as it’s really hard to keep your fingers off the clean glass.

Browse the Pella website and see if you can find the style: http://www.pella.com/features-options/grilles/

They’ve got a very good website with a lot of useful information. Also youtube.
