It used to be tools and technique (and still like playing with new ones), but now it’s marketing, split testing and rectifying errors with low prices I had offered last year for further growth.

Getting more business, I’m not a good salesman, I feel bad sometimes giving quotes and I’m not confident in them. I really want some monthly accounts so I can’t count on some steady income. Other than that I think my window cleaning skills are coming along well, and I enjoy cleaning windows. People look at me funny when I tell them that but there’s something about a squeegee against the glass that’s satisfying. And the finished product of a job well done.

Been there ! I worked as a bartender for 2 years while getting my company off the ground. Very difficult hours . I worked 7 -2 cleaning storefronts then had to be at my shift at 430 - 1 or 2 am for bartending. I would schedule all of my residential on my days off just so I never felt to rushed or prrssured. In my opinion it was the best way to start. It was a long 2 years but never felt to pressured because I always had a second income. Once I obtained enough storefront accounts to supplement my income at the bar job I slowly started cutting back my hours at that job and eventually quit and went all in. Keep at it man and you’ll get there. If I could give you any advice it’s just to get out there and spend some long solid days of hitting the streets and canvas.

It is hard. Especially to find good paying customers. Keep at it I’m sure it will pan out.

  1. Sales- this includes marketing adverts website etc.

2a. Organization- a method to the madness

2b. Estimating- understanding your area- are you high/low and is it justified

Last. Tech/Tools- favorite part though (as soon as you approve - in video - the new moerman accelerator, sold)

  1. Advertising. I get most of my jobs while I’m out giving flyers, meeting people…but when I’m on a job I can’t be handing out flyers…so I’m trying to put as many flyers as I can alone when I’m not on jobs.

  2. Organization. Keeping the car clean-always ready to go.

I am able to go at this full time around my volunteer activities, so windows M-F 8-5 is good…possible a job on the weekend if needed but so far it hasn’t been.

I’ve been a window cleaner for 8 years, but never s business owner…so literally at nearly every job I am learning something. So far many happy clients, I just really need this to pick up a bit and keep me busy until the snow comes!

I’m pretty much focusing on storefront still. I like steady money. Of course I’ll do a house if it comes my way, 200 bucks for 4-5 hours,I’ll take it. Right now I’m trying to focus on hunting elephants. I’ve already landed one. Sell one and get 50 stores. Much easier in theory. I feel like I need to focus on more “finished” pamphlets, business cards and the like. Sales verbiage and techniques isn’t the hard pay for me. Getting in front of the right people seems hard when all you have is a photo copied flyer.

Do you have any tips on landing this “Elephant”? And whats your competition like for this great catch? I’m residential and only have a few direct requested stores, there is a big “fish” in my pond.

Make them say yes? I just said I was having trouble getting on front of the decision makers.

Order some more polished marketing material from a printing company. I use vista print and found it pretty easy to use and affordable. I’m sure there are other options that people use too. I’d say don’t cheap out on business cards, it represents you when your not around.

You also said you sold one and it led to several stores, just was a question to see how you were successful with the first one buddy

Sales technique needs improvement and need to pace myself physically too. When I redline my body the recovery is time consuming. Most of April and May I only took time off from the jobs to sleep, when June started I was in claw mode and needed several weeks of just normal hours to recover.
