Expanding into a new area or county...need HELP!

If you were expanding into a new area or county and there is already a company in that new area with a very similar name…

(Your company is about 3yrs old and great reviews on Yelp, Facebook, etc.

Do you

  1. Start a new company name in both areas/counties
    Or
  2. Start a new company in that new area only

How old is your established company?

Going to be 3yrs in March.

Will be 13 yrs for me in the industry.

@thorSG1 any suggestions?

Not going into San Diego though

But would appreciate all input

If their fictitious name statement is older than yours he can sue you and make you change your name. Better check first before you ruffle any feathers. If you’re referring to me? Can’t tell where you’re from, but I’d politely ask you to not confuse the house hold name I created (now THATS funny right there I’ll tell you what).

If it is me, I’d appreciate not having a headache to deal with on top of the other junk on my plate. Cool company name by the way. Love the color too=)

Not going into San Diego

But now that I think of it, you are in San Diego and there’s another company in Riverside County with the same name so I’ll probably have to change it

There are a ton more than that. I get calls from all over. Some security guy at a high rise in San Francisco called me pissed off about us dropping squeegees from a swing stage.

Or when checks come in the mail…the bad part about that is you gotta give it back. The bigger outfit will lose money and clients if he does nothing. There was another Elite in San Diego that did mostly residential high rise who is outta biz now but back about 8 years ago I was getting calls all the time. Can you send some men to clean the insides of the windows? I’m like “of course my horse”.

He could have made me change my name, it seems as tho he had bigger fish to fry so it seems.

I guess I would have nothing to loose by changing the name, or starting a new name out there.
All the clients I have I know personally and they have my cell phone number.

Just the reviews on yelp and Facebook I guess.

You can change it on both “formerly Elite…” if you wanted. Your call. You can always ask them. They may not care.

How about keeping connectivity with your current name by adding the new region to the current name? “Elite WC of La Jolla, ( La Jolla Elite WC), etc.”
