I’m new to the community and just starting to get my business off the ground. I have been doing prep work, and plan to start canvasing on March 1st.
That being said, I have a small budget that I am trying to use as efficiently as possible. I’m now looking at what kind of tools to buy. I’ve found a few complete starter kits on EBay that seem to have most of the things I would need. But I’ve noticed that IPC Pulex is significantly cheaper than Unger for almost the same kinds of equipment. I guess my question is if IPC Pulex is a good brand, or if it is worth it to spend more money?
Yeah pulex is a bit cheaper. In my experience it’s a perfectly serviceable brand, but wouldn’t be my first choice in most cases. If you’re really on a budget then it’s better than what you can get at Home Depot. The only downside is their squeegee handles and channels are proprietary, where other brands like Ettore, Unger and Moerman can mix and match.
Edit: Only the Technolite and Alumax Swivel handles are proprietary. All others should fit any standard channel.
I hadn’t considered that. Thanks. It might end up going with Ettore. It seems like a good balance between price, comparability and quality. However, any other input is appreciated.
I have no experience with Pulex but I recommend starting out with just one brand. It is more cost effective than having to buy separate poles, rubber blades and sometimes even separate boabs.
Oops! I stand corrected. It seems only their Technolite and Alumax Swivel handles are proprietary. I guess all the others accommodate any standard channels.
i use the technolite with unger and moerman channels and idrilled out holes in some ettore so i can use pulex, moerman, and unger toothed handles with them
Ettore seems to only sell the name now. Imo they engineer it to fail so you have to replace it. I despise that thought process of engineered failure. Seems like everywhere you look it’s all plastic so do some more homework.
I guess squeegees are more complicated than I had thought. I have read good things about virtually every brand, and not a lot of complaints about any of them. Is there one brand than you suggest starting with? I have a $200 budget for tools, this includes 2 sqeegees and varied lengths of channels, pole, t-bar, razor, bucket, belt, BOAB, and anything else I might need to get started.
You can go to Home Depot and buy yourself half the stuff , bucket , 8ft pole , razor blades , steel wool , tool belt , paint Brush and some Dawn . Then buy your self a good quality squeegees from here , t bar , Boab, and some huck towels .
As you make some money you can buy more better equipment .
I haven’t had any problems except for their poles sucking.
We have moved in from the bronze age. Stainless steel channels are where it’s at. I’d go with titanium but no one is making them. And carbon nanotubes just aren’t happening…
used the blue stuff from lowes. worked great didnt break the bank and easy to use. also has shown me from just doing one job that i need a flexable handle for deep sills. overall it paid for itself like 20 times in one job.
