How do you calculate the HOURS OF WORK on your spreadsheet? I’ve tried this before and haven’t been successful. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hours are from experience.

Are the hours based off experience or does the spreadsheet actually come up with a time like the sum to an equation?

Good question, Ryan.

From experience i decided on approximate times that each item usually takes me to do. Then i priced each item at $1 per minute. The spreadsheet then divides the total price, which is also the total approximate minutes, by whatever hourly rate i would like to get. This then results in an approximate target time needed to do the job in hours with the remainder being minutes.

Example: Say you determine it takes you ten minutes to do a window, you would price it at $10 each. So 10 windows is worth $100. If you wanted to make $60/hr you need to clean them in 1 hour 40 minutes. If your goal is $50/hr, the formula would give you two hours. If you wanted to make $100/hr, it would spit out one hour. (I used “duh” numbers to make it clear how the calculations work.)

I’ve thought about revising the calculator to not have fixed prices but instead enter the estimated minutes per item on a job to job basis. However, as with every aspect of my business, my goal is to systemize the process so anyone could do it without having to use their own judgement, i.e. employees (one day).

Hope that helps!

Just to get a general idea, this is the time formula i used:

=quotient(B21:C21, 50)&" hours “&int(B21:C21)-quotient(B21:C21, 50)*50&” minutes"

The B21:C21 simply is the merged cell that contains the total cost before taxes and discounts.

He is talking about spread sheet formulas, I don’t understand it either but its what was asked by Ryan.

QUACK!!!:scream:

For spreadsheets those ARE layman’s terms.

I can’t believe everyone actually counts windows. I guess that would be annoying.

Do you have any videos of that kind of set up? it sounds user friendly i’d be interested in learning how to do that on my phone as well.

I don’t, but the online help is pretty good. The formulas are thankfully pretty basic.
