Do Lead Generating Companies Work?

I’ve heard they’re run by the mafia or mobs. IDK if it’s true, but never wanted to find out.

Have never found any positive for being a member.

If your in construction industy it may be different.

Have recently read it’s older folks that look to BBB. Younger folks look for reviews. Research and you’ll find out, they’re not all that, and a bag of chips. They called me the other day with a load that they had leads for me etc. I just dumped the message. Save the money, spend it on website or door hangers. 400 bucks will buy a lot of door hangers. :sunglasses:

The same with homeadvisor.com

I have just checked this website. It is not even secure :frowning:

I had homeadvisor.com for 1 year and here is the results:

  1. Paid them about $1700 (membership $1100 and the rest for the leads)
  2. Got 4 good commercial accounts
    a. Administrative bldg. $120. First floor. outside. About 1 hour and 15 minutes cleaning.
Monthly acc. Excellent account! Strong possibility of price raising.
    b. Nursing home. $50. (Underbid). Outside. Takes about 50 minutes. Monthly acc. High
pace work! A lot of elbow grease work! A lot of furniture moving! Low possibility of price
    raising.
    c. Emergency room. $75. Both sides. About 45 minutes. Monthly acc. Normal pace.
Cleaning inside glass as needed (just fingerprints). Strong possibility of price raising.
    d. Administrative bldg. $130. Both sides. About 1 hour and 15 minutes. Normal pace.
Service on call (I need to call them and ask if they need me). Low possibility of price
raising. In fact, they wanted me to clean blinds as well, but then, after my estimate (only
$2.5 per wide heavy type of blind), changed their mind and had their janitors do it. Bad
sign, a red flag right there!

Now, about the headaches I had with them. Once, I registered with them I started getting leads almost right away. That was exciting and I jumped on them. But, soon I figured out that at least half of them were either fake or already taking by s/body else! The problem is that homeadvisor.com never check the legitimacy of callers!!! They do NOT guaranty it, but they guaranty that once a while you WILL get a “lead.” They even sent me a lead for 12 story bldg. to clean whereas I clearly stated them, when I registered with them, that I clean only 2 story bldn.!
They said that " you have to work with the client!" (That was exactly their words!). It was futile to talk to them and explain that THEY are wrong! And, guess what? I never got my money back for this kind of fake leads! Quite often I would get “price/quota calls” - somebody is just curious about the price etc. But it is considered a legit. lead too! So, I had to pay for bunch of “leads” without even seeing the work! Sometimes I would manage to get refunds, but it was usually a pain in one place and took me a while. What I describe is only small part of all headaches I had with them! Now you do your math and tell me if it was a worth of dealing with them? Also, I checked with them on youtube and glassdoor and had another opinion (Just do it for curiosity - you would be surprised!).

One of the problem is that homeadvisor works for its customers, not us! To lure them they feed them with fake unrealistic information ("average window cleaning price for the nation, etc.) That does not include the glass condition, number of stores in home, storm windows, and many other criteria that normal professionals would go by! The result is that the potential customer, particularly residential, look at you as a highly professional and “affordable” (if not to say cheep) window cleaner. And they do have choice too! If they do not like you there 4 other guys waiting to jump on this lead quite cheaply! In addition, if you ask for refund for fake leads “quite often” (their words) you will not get leads at all and you will have to call them endless times to get you new leads! It is kind of “pump and dump” business…

Overall, if one has a lot of money to gamble or has a quite successful business and can easily spend a few thousands on this type of service and still be able to make modest profit, go for it. Once again, this is only my opinion based on my own experience. And it is one of the “leading” lead companies in the cloud! I can only imagine what other scammers can do to your business.
