Commercial Gutters

We got a commercial building that we will be doing the gutters on, we got that part handle. The customer asked if we could cap off one of the downspouts that flow into the customer walk ways and becomes ice during the winter. My question is if you where to cap it off what would be your choice of method? Here are a couple pics of the current roof condition and a pic of the down spout that they want cap off.

Thanks!

If you cap that spout is the water able to be removed from roof in another direction ? If not maybe talk them into a Diverted spout (2nd pic) so water goes away from problem area. Or if they have a leachpit. You can also go with the catchall but will still need to keep an eye on that so it don’t freeze toss some Iso or just a gal of windshield cleaner in catchall ( 1st pic )

.

If you see the catch all pic it has a cutout switch that allows the flow to be diverted to the catchall pail. Don’t cap roof unless the roof has a way of draining. from what I can see in the pic the roof it self is not pitched well ( cause the buildup) if ice gets formed it can lead to more headache on the roof.

Those are both great ideas, but there is no way to divert the downspout without obstructing (falling hazard) the walk way. It’s a government facility so they are big on safety.

That roof should have more downspouts, not less. There should never be that much water standing on the roof.

I would be considering your liability if the roof fails. Removing a downspout even at their request could bring you trouble, although unlikely.

Totally agree.

Just looking for a different options for them. The only thing that we have come up with is capping the downspout.
They understand the roof condition is very poor… (even after it was redone last year.)

The options I see are either:

Send the downspout under the curb into the parking lot.

Have the downspout go along the side of the building under the overhang until it can be pointed down.

The rerouting along the side of the building would be a lot cheaper.

This is what was decided on today.

Thanks for the input everyone!
