Breaking the Cycle of Bad Habits

Just thought I’d share this article to hopefully inspire you to try to identify bad habits limiting your success. We all have bad habits. From new guy to veteran of the trade, and from financially free to struggling to pay rent. Bad habits can control our future successes without us even being aware of them. Learning to change bad habits with good ones seems to be an ever evolving process within myself as a person and business owner.

In this article from NPR they explain how to make it easier to break a bad habit cycle. I found it interesting that they’re suggesting to change bad habits while on vacation due to the fact of limiting triggers and cues to subconsciously move past them. I can attest that this method works as on a road trip back in June of 2007 I managed to quit smoking. Just about to celebrate ten years smoke free!

In terms of the window cleaning business, bad habits can manifest themselves in many forms. For example, unnecessary movements while cleaning can drastically reduce efficiency. In terms of sales, mental blocks stopping you from approaching company executives before you even start can lead to a slower growth rate as a company. With customers, speaking or acting certain ways can reduce the ability to retain accounts resulting in less sales.

As humans and business owners we are constantly in a dynamic shift of balancing our personal lives with our businesses goals. A simple change of a bad habit can result in a more fulfilling lifestyle and higher productivity. Who doesn’t want to become more productive?

Either way, bad habits permeate our lives and businesses and we are fortunate as living, breathing, humans to be able to identify, change, and move forward as successful people and entrepreneurs. Don’t allow cycles of bad habits to limit your success as I have and just know it’s never too late to change.
