Are you responsible?

A person in this situation has no " responsibility" to use any technique other than trafutional. It is likely wise to use some of the other systems out there though.

Ladders will always have a part in the industry and so will traditional methods.

You can’t have a window cleaning business without using transitional methods to some point. You can without

Do you think a business owner - who consciously grows his business - is responsible for ensuring his employees have access to the latest technology to make their job easier and protect them from injury?

Yes the but that can also be accomplished through training, don’t have to switch to a water fed system rather than a ladder

No, it isn’t an owners job to make their job easier as a matter of convenience for them.

The safety aspect, yes. It is an employers job to make for a safe work environment for their workers.

A WFP comes with it’s own safety issues too. But like it was mentioned, you aren’t going to get away from using traditional tools. Adding a WFP should be because it makes more money, and saves putting people on a ladder all day. It doesn’t mean you have to have one when you have crews.

Lots of solo guys have them. But they still use ladders and traditional tools too.

I would say there are a lot of large companies that still don’t use waterfed and that’s just fine if that works for them . I guess to me it’s more about fostering a safe work environment where safety is taken seriously, to me that’s responsible. I have spent most of my career on a ladder and it’s true it does take it’s toll, so I get where you maybe coming from. Either way ladder or wfp this job can beat a guy up .

My customer got mad when i wet all her carpets with my WFP, she asked me why I was using water in the house, I told her I read on a window cleaning forum that is was more responsible

Too funny

Responsible? Is it responsible of a Contractor to have a lift available to replace the ladder on job sites? In some cases it is safest, but the ladder is still a tool in the arsenal of getting the job done. Some jobs simply cannot be done with a WFP. (CCU?)

WFP is a tool just as any other tool. There are situations where a WFP is ideal for a job, but a ladder and squeegee has always been, and will continue to be, a tool for accessing windows to clean.

Perhaps better to ask is - is it advantageous to provide a WFP for employee’s.
