Is there such a thing as “Carhartt meets Motorcycle Rain Gear?”
I keep ripping my rain pants when cleaning gutters and kneeling on the shingles…
There has to be a solution. I’ve seen stuff on Gander mountain, and items that claim to be “rip-stop” on golf sites - but for what? Florida gator attacks on the back nine?!
I actually have Carhartt waterproof pants. Not sure if they’re rip-stop, but they are sturdy. I have the matching jacket. I purchased them at a surplus store that carries lots of Carhartt and Dickies.
You can buy Tin Pants Tin Jackets or Tin hats …Been around for hundred of decades ! Loggers in the old days first wore them while logging here in the PNW when it rained by the tons… Fabric coated with paraffin wax very tough and long lasting and very expensive…You can get them @ Filsons !
I love my fire hose pants from Duluth (fleece lined). They are “water resistant” though, not exactly as water proof as you would think. The Filson gear is good stuff, but very heavy. They make that oil cloth for jackets also - way too heavy for my preference. Someone probably makes gore-tex lined work pants.
Filson’s is amazing! Maybe a bit expensive for some, but great product, great warranty on their clothes. I basically bought one or 3 (needed every color) of each item they have.
That said Carhartt have worked well for me for years…I save filsons for dressing up.
You could just scotch guard the crap out of your carharts or dickies… Just an idea, I see lot’s of people from Texas skiing this way and it works great for them.
Personally, I like my Dickies, but they do wear out about a pair a year for me.
I saw that same video on you tube a while back. It made me want a pair. They are almost like a novelty item. I will get a pair soon. Does anyone have a pair? If so what are they like? Would they be good for window cleaning in the winter outdoors? I would get them anyways just to have them.
Yeah the Filson cloths are cool nice stuff, I use to clean the main store here in Seattle a few years ago ! The Tin Pants are VERY waterproof and tough !
The tin pants look rugged as hell and I would like to own a pair. However, the oil finish makes the material look dirty after awhile. Not an issue if you are using them for construction, logging or hunting, but I don’t think I would wear them on a residential window job, which is my main business. I could see them for power washing with all the water being sprayed. My clothes get soaked every time. I buy a pair and use them hunting and power washing, but not window cleaning.
Your right Phil, but he’s was talking about cleaning gutters and crawling on roves. Once a cleaner starts cleaning gutters it’s a good chance at least they’re pants get dirty if their not wearing rubber rain pants, which is what I’ll wear if it is going to be wet and dirty cleaning gutters or raining to boot ! If your pants get dirty and you have a second job …oh well ! I use the Halley Hanson Rain gear they’re pretty good also.
They’re fairly light and very comfortable, and machine washable (in cold water.)
“Our waterproof breathable jacket is a shorter version of our waterproof breathable coat and is made of durable nylon with a special water-repellent finish. Its breathable membrane allows body heat to leave the garment even as it keeps rain and moisture out. The interior body lining is a 100% polyester mesh, with the sleeves and hood lined in nylon. The contoured three-piece hood features an adjustable draw cord and is removable. The hem is finished with an elastic drawcord to keep out wind and cold.”
I went with your suggestion, Larry, and picked the jacket with matching pants. No offense, Dange, but I didn’t want to look like a lumberjack out there!
