I used to be a high mileage runner. Once I started to have pain in my right hip, I got away from running. I want to at least start jogging (build up to about 30 min) a few days a week. I plan on gradually getting back into it. I miss it a lot!
If you look into walking vs running, the long term benefits and deficits of each, what you learn may surprise you.
I will do that. Thanks Mike!
I don’t run/jog because of complications from more than a few broken bones. I bike. I mountain bike the local off-road trails and have done well competitively. I also road bike; I have routes that I do out of my drive that are 18 miles, 22, 24, 34, and 42 miles. Cycling is low impact. It is important to get a good fitting on a good bike that fits you. It makes a world of difference in comfort and how long you will want to bike.
My latest bike:
Thanks for sharing Gary. I used to ride mountain bikes a lot years ago. You have a nice bike. I used to have a Trek 8500. I think that is the correct number.
I found doing short distance sprinting was much more enjoyable. Never enjoyed the long stuff. Got me fit, fast and Strong.
I just got me a new Trek Dual Sport bike a few months ago. Been doing a lot of biking and walking this year.
I hate running
Going Elk hunting in Colorado OR Idaho this year. Haven’t decided, but I’m that weirdo you see at local trails hiking around in hunting boots and a 70 lb pack so I don’t die on a mountain somewhere.
From time to time I’ll do a 5k with this pretty lady because she was born to run. Runs like a demon. I never train for the 5k because she just pulls me for 3.1 miles.
Its great to hit the trails, I just can’t get into running but getting on a nice trail head I can relate to.
XT Shadow is a sweet mech. I have SLX Shadow on my Fuel. Had the XT on the Sugar I just sold. Do you use your clutch much?
When Yogi ran down the beach last week I chased him for about 15 minutes. After I gave up and started walking back to the truck he came back to me.
I went to the gym earlier that day so I was really feeling sorry for myself for a while. I quit running almost 10 years ago due to arthritis in my knee but after several years of taking turmeric it is almost normal and I was able to run after Yogi without having inflammation (although I was inflamed at Yogi’s disobedience).
I’m in the same boat. Before I got married I ran every day and loved it. Once I got married I enjoyed my marriage! Then once I started having kids, mortgage etc. Now I don’t have the time or energy to get back into it but 50 lbs later I desperately need to. I started walking. I figure once I get into the habit of walking every day and increase my miles I’ll start intervals with walking and jogging and slowly transition into running.
It’s been so long since I have run my biggest concern is going back into it too quickly and getting injured.
Wow, I avoid walking to my truck twice if I can help it.

They say walking and sprinting intervals is healthier for the joints and better results fitness wise.
I have a 6 month husky pup who loves the short distance runs. I do sprinting myself and I can ensure you. Anyone who doesn’t regularly sprint you’ll be burst after a few 100m sets of sprinting.
I have decided to take up walking and maybe jogging a little every so often. Walking will be a lot less stressful on my joints.
I work 12-14 days atleast 6 days a week for my exercise… …and it works!
I know what you mean. If you eat clean it can work from a perspective of maintaining your weight but I have often been curious if it’s healthy. For me I feel much better when I add in some exercise. Even if it’s just a simple walk every day. It helps to alleviate any tension and stress along with other benefits of course. I also feel great when I add a little resistance training. Even if it’s just push ups and pull ups.
I even considered trying to make the last 30 to 40 minutes if the day a real intense window cleaning cardio session!
