Amazon Home Services

Any of you guys advertise with Amazon Home Services? If so, how do you like it? Do you recommend a different online middleman? Just moved to a new area that is swamped with window cleaners and I’m trying to figure out the best way to get some new customers. I’ve tried door knockers, signs on the roadside, and physically walking up to the homes and leaving my cards. Any suggestions?

I don’t give any of my money to online services so I don’t have any recommendations regarding them. Getting market share is always hard, just hang in there.

There’s tumbleweeds blowing through AHS in NJ. Really nobody using them.

I’ve never tried advertising on AHS, didn’t know that was an option. I use AHS for about a year, and it’s an okay add on to get customers, but not my main stream. What area/state are you starting your business?

Anyone advertising on amazon lately?? Their offer was $495 for lifetime. But i havent heard of folks serching for home services on amazon. Anyone have any input?

I would stay away from AHS. There is a lot of red tape, and they basically dictate your pricing.

There’s a reason not many contractors are using it.

How do you find out how many contractors are using it? It is new. So, maybe that’s why not many using it yet. I didn’t get the sense that there was any red tape. $495 for life. That’s it. Wait for the jobs to be emailed to me. I’m leary, and I want to find out if someone has had actual experience with it. Amazon has a VERY LARGE reach. Almost EVERYONE uses it for one thing or another. I just haven’t heard of the home services part till yesterday. It could be a good thing, but it might not.

Easy, go to your local area and search for things like “window cleaner”, “power washer” etc.

Its tumbleweeds there, or at least at last check it was

The $495 for life must be a new thing, as it seems they are grasping for straws. From what I understand, they would get paid a lead fee for every job you landed, and it was pretty hefty.

Their home services division has been around for at least 4 or 5 years now. Unfortunately for them, everyone and their mother got involved in the lead gen business before they did (Google, Yelp, Thumbtack, Angies, HA, etc etc etc). Its an overcrowded market.

Yes, it does seem like they are trying new things to make it happen at Amazon and I agree that the lead gen business is crowded. After doing some more reading and looking at their price structure, I dont think im going to participate as their prices are way to low. The way some of the service is described, its vague on when the customer pays. One spot it sounds like they pay up front. Another spot they say they “wont have to pay a dime” if they don’t like the price (which could change after having the tech look at the job) also don’t have to accept the service providers new price. But then what does the provider do??? Not do the job and get a bad review? Suck it up and not get paid enough? It doesn’t sound like a good deal for the provider. It would also leave the customer in a spot where it looks like he/she might be getting the shaft because in my case, every job would be quoted higher than the amazon price that they may or may not have already paid for. Then Amazon wont look like they are providing a good service and everyone is pissed. I’m done looking into this. I’m out.

I suspect AHS will not work because like Homejoy they have misunderstood the problem.

Complete waste of time, prices are decent for small homes but as the job gets bigger price per window goes down. They also take like $30 off the top. Since I was new solo I tried it, ended up turning down 99% of the jobs due to either availability or price. My account just got “put on hold” because I wasn’t accepting anything through them.

Amazon Home Services is terrible.
You will doing wayyy to much for what they pay.
We tried for home cleaning business and let’s say there is big $109 for 3 hours, eco-friendly cleaning.
Of $109 you pay 20% to Amazon. If you cancel you pay $50 cancellation fee. If customer doesn’t like it Amazon will reimburse them. To make customers happy you will be spending 4 hours or more on a 3 hours job.

Overall AHS is scam for contractors.
