Already gave up

It was $22 for the outsides and the door and mirrors from the last guy. This is both sides of the windows. She wouldn’t go for the $30. And it’s better than the $20 I was going for from the beginning

just too argue wasnt the $20 fair and why take advantage like everyone was saying

Thanks for the input. Good luck on your accounts today

too windy wfp so just chillin and poking

I have seen this and have always equated it a guy that’s probably earning a small commission or low hourly rate . I guess we all know it’s difficult to find help that will treat your customers like you would.

LMAO. That’s funny right there.

Way to be “positive”, mister.

What Window cleaning company was this? Have a name?

I completely agree with what you’re saying and I also feel that doing it for half the price lowers the value. To many window cleaners lower prices and it effects the other company’s in the area/city.

Can’t please everybody all the time.

I am very interested to see how it played out from offering twice the work for $2 less then increasing your price by $5 once the work is set up.

Honestly I’m curious if he approached for more money how it transpired

She said she needed a window cleaner, I said inside/outside and hair stations for $25.

Personally, I charge what is a fair price for me and my business. I don’t care what the other window cleaners in the area are charging. If I’m higher so be it. If I’m lower, so be it. Their ‘needs’ are the least of my concerns.

It doesn’t matter to me what a guy charges. Here’s the thing though… MANY discussions have transpired here about pricing. The subject of what the last guy charges has come up frequently. The common consensus is that you shouldn’t charge more if you know the last guy was priced high, if your normal price is lower. If I remember correctly, you and I discussed this before and you said you thought it was wrong to charge more just because you can.

So, like @anon46335951 I am curious how you came to the 5 dollar increase when you already priced her in August for 20. Just seems odd that it is insinuated that I am some unethical turd for seeing opportunity to make more, and somehow others aren’t when they are doing exactly what I suggest to make better money.

And before turds and knives get slung, lets remember this is a discussion. If you post something you are going to get opinions on both sides of the coin. If a guy stands on some mythical “moral high ground” you can’t be surprised if you get called on it later when you aren’t standing on it.

Common to put a higher value on better quality work.

If you plan on operating a successful business pricing does play a huge factor.

This exact situation is dependent on if a solo operator does the work or a employee.

Nothing against how @ahamilton prices his jobs just looking for clarification for other readers on forum looking for info and choices for the direction they plan on heading their business.

Do you want to separate yourself from the competition with better quality at lower prices or higher.

More likely to struggle as a business if you think you can have both, lowest price and highest quality.

By separating yourself from competition with quaility you would likely be doing so with an increased value to your services.

some of our other services are getting booked into Jan. not only do i want to create higher value but also exclusivity.

The type of clientele you cater too, will be the ones to refer you to like minded friends and associates.

good points

In an interview the owner of Luxottica (manufacturer of Arnette, Oakley, Persol, Ray Ban and many other pricey glasses brands) was asked if his glasses are really worth the high prices they command.

His reply? “They are worth whatever people are willing to pay.”

Every business and household has the option to hire a different, cheaper window cleaner at any time. It is not unethical or predatory to charge whatever you like, as long as you don’t skimp on the integrity of your service.

Not to say it’s wrong or bad to charge less than others. But life as a businessperson is so much easier with wide profit margins.

Many good things in this post

I strive for providing the highest quality of service by doing this I pay higher wages and spend time training to achieve this. This increases my costs on jobs too so I must charge more.

I seek out the customers that want that same quality and will pay for it, we respect each other

I was saying it was wrong for more price on the same job. The increase was for inside/outside.
