Adding a grocery store?

I’m strictly residential. Not because I refuse to do storefronts or commercial, mind you, it is only because there is not much of that in my region. Until now. Got a call from a new grocery store, a nice one, and they want a quote tomorrow. Might be a one shot deal, but could be seasonal or monthly…
Any ideas on how to charge?
If I figured it out using my rez pricing it be around $300.00, enough to stop the heart of any Food Mart Type Manager…

A $300 price tag should do the trick if you don’t want to do the job.

Pricing per pane kind of goes out the window for me for grocery stores because a lot of them have really big plate glass windows. For me I would just estimate how long it would take me and multiply it by my commercial dollar/hour target goal. I also would insist on a schedule - monthly, quarterly etc. All my commercial is scheduled.

I personally like cleaning grocery stores, but I have found that I need to choose the time wisely. Early morning 6:00 am or so works well, or later in the evening, say 10:00 pm. Cleaning them during shopping rushes is a no-go.

I have one I do weekly. 106 (53 in/out) 3’ x 3’ surfaces including 3 sets of sliders at just a bit over $100.

I try NOT to have a commercial hourly goal less than residential unless a schedule is established. I’d rather not substitute lower pay for that time slot.

I recently added a monthly grocery account at $2.50 per pane-equivalent, with a 6:00AM start. Completing the doors tends to be slower as traffic increases.

Grocery stores are great get there at 5AM and no one in your way the night crew lets you in to do the inside before the store opens at 6AM.

You charge $100?

You got the job at $2.50 a pane? How much work is it?

I did.

This thread is from 2012. I don’t think Larry is on here anymore.

Interesting. I priced 47 large store windows. 20 Freezers (outside only) 15 coolers and 15 spot Freezers (outside) for $165, was that to high?

Is that priced so your business is profitable or you think you hit a goldmine.

Seems it might be a little conservative.

Wow really? We’d potential he be doing around 25 stores. I wanted to make a competitive bid. Rather I want to make a competitive bid. I was actually afraid this was too high, now I’m wondering what I should structure of my pricing around her pa potential he be doing around 25 stores. I wanted to make a competitive bid. Rather I want to make a competitive bid. I was actually afraid this was too high, now I’m wondering what I should structure of my pricing around per pane. I did $1 per pane side on the main windows. $1.60 total for each cooler in and out. $0.75 on the small little spot freezer top panes. $0.75 for each of the Freezers outside only. The buck for each mirror. I live in Ohio and am very new to the industry. I’m just making assumptions here on what others might bid the job as. I’m scared that our prices could be way off resulting in thousands of dollars lost if we get the contract… big learning curve :pensive:

So what windows besides the front windows do grocery stores usually have you clean?

Here are pictures.
1 and 2 are the main windows
3 is the spot freezer
4 are the coolers, and the freezer look the same
Lastly there are mirrors

Hello! I’ve not been here in quite some time, but I started getting emails about this thread the other day so I looked at it. Turns out I started it! As an update, I priced that store at slightly more than 50% of my residential rate. I get $175 to do the place each month and that has remained unchanged since back in 2012. Works out to be about $50 an hour. I make much more nowadays on residential work, but I keep this store because it is a year round account. It’s hard to find the time to get it done during the busy season, but it’s worth the hassle in the long run.

Thank you for the update. Do you do all the work that I have mentioned?

No, but this a big store that I do. From the looks of your pics though, it seems to be about the same amount of work. Your Wndows+Freezers+coolers equal the amount of windows I do. Also, twice a year they have me do the outside of the freezer doors and I charge $75 for that. There are 60 doors.

Aldi stores?

I know a large company that does offer 100 Aldi stores in the Midwest for ~$70 twice per month. I’m not saying that is a good price, but it is the reality of Aldi pricing.

I subbed a few when I was starting out. They are very frustrating to do while they are open. If you come during peak times, they can be a night mare. Budgeted about 10 minutes to do all the cooler doors.

You have to HUSTLE. I wish you all the best with this pursuit, but you may be in a little over your head. Yes, it would probably be a great boon to your business, but 35 Aldi stores including drive time is a large undertaking or someone relatively inexperienced.

Again, I’m not trying to discourage you. Keep in mind that you can learn a lot from the bidding process alone. All the best.

I agree. Doesn’t seem experienced enough to handle the complexities of the situation.
