Accidents happen, but really!?

So yesterday was one of those days that I just can’t understand, I let my guy take the van for half the day while I got much needed paperwork done and so I can cut his check. It’s his second day using the vehicle and I was just trying to give him a confidence boost and test the waters. Next thing you know I get a phone call from him saying that he got into a wreck, WTF!!! So I ask if he’s ok and he said yeah and so was other driver. I ask him were it happened and he gave me the address. As I’m driving there I start to realize that it’s not on his route, it happened in front of his house!!! Apparently he had to poop on his way to the next job. Someone shoot me cuz this guys poop just cost me a lot of money. I’m so frustrated guys, I just don’t know to react. I just don’t understand how that happens.

Dang i’m sorry to hear that. How far out of the way was it? Do u pay him hourly?

I only ask, because ive had similar instances and that’s a fireable offense.

Plus we charge tbe employee up to $450 per accident. Or up to $750 if they rear ended someone. We are in FL, laws might be different there.

It was a couple miles away and yeah he’s hourly. I’ve never had to deal with this before. If you ask me it just seems so dumb.

I’ve put so much time and money into training him and he’s getting really good, I would hate to fire him, plus he’s my cousin. Lol

Well, ***t happens…

A couple miles… id be ok with that… … i had a guy that was going an hour away (one way) just to meet his gf for lunch… but then not reporring it, so essentially stealing from the company.

That I know bro, I’ve been through so much sh***t that I’m starting to smell like it. Lol

Yeah that’s not ok, I’d fire him if he did that. I’m putting him on probation and with that comes no overtime pay, and I’m still deciding if I should have him help with the costs

Well, check with ur laws… for me, all new hires haves to sign a form that states they agree to have their paycheck deducted if they get into an accident… you “might” not be able to charge him without something in writng first. But also since he’s family that might not matter.
If u can legally, i would definately charge him. It’s business.

Ha. Sorry man but that’s funny. It’s your cousin. Is there any authority there? Before I read it was your cousin I was going to suggest slipping him heavy doses of laxative to set him straight… Make him s*** so much he’ll never want to s*** again. Lol

I’m gonna figure some way for him to pay.

Employees don’t pay for anything here legally.

In this case you are in a tougher position being family?

In my situation i would for surely write them up, family or not, be clear any unauthorized use of company vehicle needs prior approval.

No attempt at them paying for anything as they are an employee and having employees gives us risks.

Nah… it’ll be much better value if you bring it up at EVERY single family get together FOR THE REST OF TIIIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEEEEEE

Don’t bill him. But make him pay

He really needed to be " On His Game " knowing this was his first day alone in vehicle. I get needing to " GO " and that can not be helped, but being the first day out he really needed to call you ( or text ) to ask if it was ok to go home ( even your cousin ). The first day out to do work alone and he ends up at his house ? !! Not good ! If he doesn’t understand why this is not good then that is NOT GOOD !
Have a serious talk with him.

My thoughts. JT

We had a $100 dump a couple years ago. Since then we have a strict policy for that.

I had no idea that was legal!?!

Its part of new employee signatures. As long as they sign off on it (that they agree to it)… its legal.
