A little OCD kicks in

I’m a bit of a perfectionist… which is sometimes good, sometimes bad… anyone else think they probably go over board?

Not if they can do it efficiently and quickly.

Well it’s actually the same house… i didn’t realize the 2 different windows in the picture untill later… i have a few more on my website/facebook… so no its not a “lie”.

Yeah i think i spend too much time doing them… like customers prob dont care as much as i do …i start to think after a while.

How much extra money is it making you to get them perfect?

How much extra time are you spending?

What is your method?

How many callbacks have you gotten for dirty tracks and sills?

Mind you, I like me a clean tracks and sill. Track brush, small pump sprayer and sponge. Some have recommended a paint brush.

But, no, the customers usually dont care. During estimate, the phrase, “to a reasonable degree” helps set their expectations.

That’s really clean but can’t post a before and after if it’s not actually the same window.

People will not trust you

So what’s your process, those vinyl windows suck to work with.

I need to time it really… but i’d say probably 5 minutes per window. Not more than that- but it adds up with alot of windows.

My method is easy… i brush any loose stuff to the center and then vacuum that up with a hand vac… that is less than a minute, real quick.

Then i steam clean the tracks, then wipe them down wth a huck. No need for screwdrivers for tight places… the steam does all the work. I have an attachment on my steam cleaner that has a little stiff brush that does any scrubbing. This takes 3-4 min per.

I don’t think I go overboard too much. But I think you do. Seems a bit excessive.

Yeah i think u may be right. I struggle with wanting to get every bit of it super clean (prior military mindset) vs just a “reasonable” clean that the customer would probably be fine with and saving me a bit of time and back ache.

Do you have any pics, technical or pricing info on your steam cleaner? Thanks.

And I didn’t mean to sound condescending. Sometimes we offer services that they really don’t want/need just to justify higher pricing. Kind of like cable -we give you 325 channels, when 50 are all you will likely ever watch.

I understood what u meant, but i appreciate the clarification and feedback. I too think i go a bit overboard. Its jist really hard for me to leave a job unless it looks like that.

This is the one i use. It heats up fast. Only have to fill it once.

Time it takes you to take out the screens, clean the inside and then the outside and fit the screens back in its probably between 10-15 mins per window for someone to never open them for a year/years.

I don’t stay in the same country as you but when I clean in the UK I got very paranoid about people thinking I’d left spots of mess on the frames and glass. I took a hour each house. Homes in the UK are small and they now take me 40mins first time and then 20 mins each month.

I soon changed my attitude because it was costing me so much time for no gratitude and slow payers.

You’ll get faster and learn about how long you need and what expectations they expect. To be that clean I’d say that was premium and I’d charge so much more.

That steam cleaner has a very gentle price. Would it also be able to clean screens?

Yes
