1st job!

Yea you cant be so quick to pick and choose certain types of glass. Especially being new. Take it on. Do it. Learn it. Build up that endurance by WORKING. When the customers are calling you instead of you hunting them, you gonna say “i dont like to bend over, call the last guy”

Hydration is an ongoing process night and day.

As you get more into shape and build stamina you will sweat less because your body is less fatigued and it doesn’t have to work so hard.

What a lot of new guys do is fail to practice, when not being paid to do so, then working out their per pane price based upon what others say is to be expected for a pro ,so charging $60 per hour and taking much longer.
Traditional window cleaning requires a great deal of practice until you can do the windows effortlessly and without errors, if you are not spending at least 2-3 solid hours every day cleaning your own windows when you don’t have work, then you should be, even video it and watch it back to see how you can improve your technique or post it and ask for critique.

I can clean my own windows well…but my customers and potential customers don’t have my windows…so i practice techniques but the best practice ill get is paid practice

Its less about the type of window and the glass time, all glass in windows is pretty much the same well as a surface anyway, tinted and low E has more drag but the principle of cleaning the glass with your squeegee remains the same. Many if not most people will agree that to master window cleaning requires about10000hours, to be competent and proficient will take from anywhere to 6 months to a year or more depending on the individual and physical ability.

Its about the science behind what your doing once you fully understand how what and why the squeegee and the interaction with the surface it will all become clear, it just flicks on like a switch and you are like omg how did it take me so long to work that out, until then your pretty much just mimicking what you have seen. it can take a month to a year or maybe never.

I see what your saying. I feel i am at a decent spot for still being new. And feel inorder to continue my advancement, i need better tools. So that will be the next step i think. Invest in a swivel sorbo handle and cobra channels…i just got my boab in the mail. So in order to advance more i need better tools

Well put steveO. Thats some squeegeeology 101 right there

this thread made me think of one of my worst jobs about 7 years ago.

Wealthy town, 90 windows, all divided casements, 90 screen cleans, 15 or 20 French doors. $750. should have been somewhere around $3000.

First thing lady asks, “is that price for everything or just outside only?”

My alternator died in their driveway, had to get it towed out, basically did 2000 panes of glass for free. Friday- Sunday.

Dont give up man. Dont get discouraged. You’ll find your groove.

btw, I got that job from doing a $20 storefront. The lady was inside eating and asked for a quote.

Or clean big jobs to get me to quit. Cause thats where I’m at atm after cleaning a big job. Please read before making useless comments

If you think youll quit cause you cant handle the labor, this flat out isnt for you. A job/business is just that. Work. Maybe you dont enjoy it as much as you thought, as much as the crazy sob’s on this site. But in anything in life, if you train harder than the job requires, the job itself isnt hard at all. Did u ever play any sports? Training is twice as hard as the game! If you want to be good at this profession, you gotta be stronger than youre talking right now. You cant be afraid to get up earlier, soak that 4th shirt, work when you hurt , work when youre sick, man up son. You read useless comments, i see advice

Not only do you get practice and can possibly get jobs you’re doing a good deed!

@SwissMike. Its not the hard work. I love working for my pay. Its not the working when sore. Its not even the quantity of clothes i may go thru. Its the fear of heat exhustion and dehydration. So i am talking from fear of dying. I read and get advice. But some people read the last few posts and make comments on it, without reading back all the way. So their replies are not fully informed. I am open to criticism and help. Ask many, i reach out and ask for help and post often on here seeking help.
Not everyone learns and works in the same way. I found out doing big jobs to adapt isnt my style. Doing smaller jobs in this heat is more my speed. Its all a learning experience. Highs and lows. This im learning was just a low…

There’s and old Chinese proverb.

It goes something like this, “if you think something’s too hard, or you feel you can’t accomplish a goal, move over for the person already doing it.”

May not be what you’re looking for, but it’s one of many guiding priciples I hold close to the center of my operations.

Good Luck. Hope it helps.

That’s weird.

I use to work for an old Chinese guy, he always said, “Stop whining and get back to work, or stay home.” Almost the same thing.

And here, all this time, I thought he was just being an ass…maybe, he had a bad translation of this Ancient Chinese Proverb.
:joy:

You could say it that way too. I’m actually pretty crass at heart. If you really want to know what I think In general PM me. Lol. That goes for anyone reading this.

My opinions have been tempered through me experiences. Lol

it’s rude to assume that I didn’t read your comments I know what you’re feeling I weigh 330 lbs I could probably stand to lose 75 to 100 of that and yet I know that when I complete a week of very difficult work the next week is a breeze because my body has adapted but if I spend weeks doing stuff that I’m already capable of doing I attrophy and can’t handle the big jobs
